Colorado: Legislature approves measures to take away civil penalties for possession of 1 to 2 ounces of hashish
The House and Senate Legislature has refined the legislation, House Bill 1090, removing civil penalties for activities involving the possession of up to two ounces of cannabis.
State law allows adults to legally possess up to one ounce of recreational marijuana with no penalty. In contrast, possession of one to two ounces of cannabis is classified as a minor offense with a civil penalty of $ 100. House Bill 1090 eliminates these civil penalties. The measure also makes it easier for people with previous marijuana convictions to apply to the courts for their records to be sealed.
The measure is now awaiting action by the democratic government of Jared Polis. Once the law has been signed, the measure will take effect immediately.
