Like what many artists do these days, Eminem has released surprise music for its fans. He has just released a companion LP to his 11th studio album, Music To Be Murdered By, which was released back in January.
While the drop came as a surprise, there were notices circulating a few days before the drop and several Eminem employees posted Twitter and Instagram images of cover art and track lists. Music to be Assassinated by Side B is the artist’s third surprise release in his career.
But does Eminem smoke weed?
He was open about his struggles with drug addiction in the past, wrote many songs on the subject, and didn’t shy away from sharing personal milestones with fans. While recovery from addicts is sometimes smoking weed, each person’s relationship with drugs is personal.
Eminem has announced that his addiction problem began in his mid-20s when he started taking prescription drugs. “It was easy in the beginning,” he said. “I didn’t have the money to really get into drugs. I would do it if someone offered it to me. As my career started and the crowd got bigger and life got faster, I reached for it more and more. I used it as a crutch to calm my nerves. Especially the sleeping pills. “
This time in his life was followed by a four year hiatus from music, where he spent his time in rehab and then relapsed. The release of his album Recovery marked the point in his life when he was drug free, a time he characterizes as happy and creatively fulfilling.
When it comes to weeds, there isn’t much information available other than what’s in Eminem’s songs. His most famous weed song, Must Be The Ganja, is a standard rapper drug song that doesn’t say much about his personal relationship with it. In The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady, a song in which he worked with Kid Cudi, he writes: “I had hoop dreams, now I shoot three, have a little green, but I don’t weed.”
Of course these are all just songs. If Eminem doesn’t make a public statement or openly smoke weeds, then they have no way of knowing whether or not they are using marijuana.
