Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) celebrated New York’s recently passed adult marijuana law at a rally last weekend. Then he went on to say he wanted to bring it to the federal level.
Schumer’s stance on cannabis reform measures
Schumer is ready to end America’s marijuana ban. At the New York Cannabis Parade and Rally, Schumer was enthusiastic about marijuana reform at the federal level. He played up the crowd by saying, “What we’ve achieved in New York is just the beginning. We will transfer this energy to Washington. “About seven weeks ago Schumer talked about working on a bill to reform cannabis laws, but we have nothing to see … for now.
Schumer said directly in his speech: “We have to do it right. We have a unique opportunity to invest in color communities and create opportunities for people who have been hard hit by bans. Right now, somewhere in this city, hopeful entrepreneurs are gathering and considering a future marijuana business that will provide jobs for New Yorkers and taxpayers’ money for the damaged communities. “The speech was in line with the federal marijuana reform plan originally set out by Schumer, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Sen. Rob Wyden (D-OR).
Schumer did not crush any words as he deliberated on the historical significance of this matter. “For decades – it was terrible – young men and young women, disproportionately young men and women of color, were arrested and detained for carrying even small amounts of marijuana. And so many of them never recovered from it. We can never let that happen again. “
Optimistic views on marijuana laws
It’s easy to get frustrated at the inconsistency between popular opinion and current federal marijuana laws, and after decades of bans one could be pessimistic about real reforms. However, our Senate majority leader is very optimistic and excites marijuana enthusiasts across the country. Schumer offered such inspiration by saying, “We have support across the country. Have you heard of South Dakota? Hardly a liberal bastion. You voted for legalization! “
With support for marijuana legalization growing in recent years, we can hope that federal reform will be passed soon. With or without Biden, it is clear that more and more Americans have become familiar with marijuana. This has been achieved through advocacy and activism in each community, helping to educate those who are not as well informed about the issue. You can also help by simply discussing with those who want to learn more about marijuana.
