The CBP reached out to both Homeland Security Investigations and the Pembina County’s Sheriff’s Department for assistance. The investigation of the imprecisely manifested charge is still ongoing.

Although Pembina isn’t as busy with drug seizures as some other Canada-US border crossings, such as the Peace Bridge between Ontario and New York and the Ambassador Bridge between Ontario and Michigan, Pembina has recently seen some cannabis-related seizures.

Just last month, 61kg of THC extract was seized after being sent to the US and manifested as a non-alcoholic disinfectant. “The support of the US Border Patrol K-9 led to the warning of the presence of a trained odor. The smell was traced back to the consignment labeled with disinfectant, ”reported the CBP.

And in September 2019, US officials seized a commercial shipment that manifested itself when jeans and t-shirts found 164 grams of cannabis, 123 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and 884 grams of THC gums.
