Weed Porn: Concentrate on hashish images

In 1974, the High Times published its first marijuana centerfold in its fall issue, only the second issue of the groundbreaking magazine on cannabis. The image shows a 20 pound brick of a Colombian pot on a white silk sheet and was the first in a series of iconic marijuana photographs that continue to this day. Since that popular debut, cannabis photography has advanced both technically and artistically, with countless other publications devoted to the plant. And with the spate of cannabis marketing that legalization has brought with the explosive growth of social media, a new day has dawned in the weed porn era.

Photographer Curtis Taylor (Instagram: @curt_ice) got his first dose of cannabis photography as a boy in Oklahoma. To him, the pictures in the editions of the High Times, which he found in supermarket newsstands, pointed to another world in the distance. When he was in Portland’s legal cannabis industry as an adult, those images still burned his mind.
